Three Productions. Three Weekends. Nine Nights.

Teesri Duniya is proud to present The Backyard Theatre Festival, a three-weekend event featuring some of the city’s most dynamic political artists. Interweaving stories of resistance across time, land, and languages, these community-driven pieces are exemplary of the intercultural, interdisciplinary work for which Teesri has come to be known.

An activists’ answer to the summer festival season, this event also represents the formal launch of Teesri’s Backyard Theatre venue, located in the lush gardens of Cité-des-Hospitalières. Join us at sunset this September to experience the innovative worlds within these works.

Migratory Birds:

The play tells the stories of three characters from Latin America who move to Canada. It explores their relationships with non- human species, their work, solitude, and nostalgia as they navigate life in the city and question their inclusion in this new world. The characters grapple with cultural differences and their emotions, creativity, and knowledge, forging connections that lead to encounters, recognition, and love. The play shares lived experiences and examines the dynamics of labour, exclusion, language politics, and borders. It depicts the characters’ commitment to the lands they now inhabit and their ongoing efforts towards decolonization.
